Plugin Portlets
Liferay now supports using plugin portlets. In the past, developers had to use the extension environment to develop portlets and themes. But now with the Plugin SDK download, developers can migrate their code to plugin portlets.
Of course, plugins are a much better alternative since they offer independent development and deployment for your code. So, go to Liferay Additional downloads to get the SDK and get started.
